Greetings from Sara!!

Hello!!  Thank you for reading my blog.  I look forward to meeting you in person at a show or exchanging messages about pottery.  Until then, let me introduce myself and tell you the story of the origin of the name Staplewood Pottery.

I was raised in Midwest farm country (see the beautiful sunflower field?) so I have that strong Midwest work ethic and I love to learn.  Arts and crafts have always interested me because I grew up in a house filled with old handmade items that we actually used.  It was like having our own “Art at Home” that we used every day.

Staplewood Farmhouse

My career took me to many diverse countries including the south of England where we lived in a lovely old thatched roof farmhouse on the edge of the New Forest. My family shared many happy moments at Staplewood Farmhouse including picking wild berries, making rose hip jam and helping with newborn foals and lambs. How we found that house to rent is a story for another day. English pottery captured my passion and I have been studying those ceramic forms ever since.

I established my pottery business after retiring from my professional career. With such fond memories of living in England and collecting pottery that I can use every day, I named my pottery business after the farmhouse, Staplewood Pottery. And because Staplewood Pottery is pottery that you can use and enjoy every day, I hope it becomes your own “Art at Home”.

  1. Hi Sara. Your Blog tells a lovely story of living in England. We have good friends that live in Cheltenham in England and others in Torquay. Where did you actually live? I love the story of how it influenced your pottery. When times are better we hope to run into you one day and see more of your pottery. Best!!

    1. Thank you, Linda. We loved living in England and have such fond memories. We also made wonderful, special friends with whom we still stay in touch after all these years. We lived outside of Southampton on a road that meandered through fields and the New Forest. The closest village was Marchwood, if you know where that is located. What beautiful countryside! I look forward to seeing you in the future.
