Sara Evans Potter

Many years ago, we lived in England in a lovely old thatched roofed cottage called Staplewood Farmhouse. I admired the practicality and simple, classic design of handmade English pottery. This inspired me to establish Staplewood Pottery in 2014, after retiring from a 35 year career as a chemical engineer.

I love creating pottery that someone will hold and use everyday.  I think about the form and how it will fit in your hands so it is comfortable and comforting.  There is nothing like having a cup of coffee, tea or hot chocolate from a favorite mug.  I hope that you like my pottery as much as I enjoy making it.

Artist's Statement

I like the challenge of making pottery that is both artistic and functional. Having been trained as a Chemical Engineer, I enjoy using the balance of mechanical force from my hands to make simple, pleasing designs from the clay. Also, trained as a musician, I look for the beauty and art in the flowing forms of my pottery. Like music, I view pottery as a universal language that spans cultures and ages. I make my pots for you to use and enjoy everyday and for years to come … your own “Art at Home”.

Making Pots for You to Enjoy "Art at Home"

I form my pottery by hand, throwing stoneware clay on the wheel and hand building, and then fire it with individually-developed complimentary glazes. All of my pottery is lead-free and can be used in the microwave and oven. It can be washed in the dishwasher, but why not enjoy it more during your day by hand washing it?
